Young Americans are not unaware of what is happening around them. Many simply no longer believe that anything they do will change it. I came of age in the 1960s and was in college by 1972. Politics did not feel like something happening somewhere else. The war in Vietnam, the draft, the civil rights movement, women’s liberation, political corruption and the broader rebellion against established authority were woven into everyday life. There were marches, teach-ins, campus or
